Osakis,Mn | I was looking at the old aerial maps of my farm and others in the surrounding area, dated 8-15-1939, and was amazed at the large amount of oats grown then. I couldn't figure out what all the short lighter lines in the oat fields were. Then thinking about the August date, they were lines of shocked grain. Must have been quite a job to stack all those grain bundles out in the field and later pick them up and haul them to the threshing machine. My Dad used to talk about the threshing run and how much work it was, but I never realized so many acres were planted to small grains at that time. | |
