I think it's alright to edit with no explanation of your edit as long as it is a minor problem...........spelling, punctuation, etc. If you edit and change something substantial it is nice to explain what you did because if I come along reading a thread a day or so later sometimes it is hard to figure out the subsequent responses to the edited thread. Sometimes they make no sense at all. If you knew what the "edited post" originally said then it would tie together all the loose ends. But hey, it's a free world............do what you want.
