Subject: Soybean inoculant treatment weeks prior to planting?

I have the option of getting my soybeans treated by my dealer with several types of treatment. Those include fungicide, insecticide and inoculant. The fungicide and insecticide I'm okay making a decision on, but the inoculant I need to know more about.

This seed will be treated weeks prior to planting....I thought inoculant had an extremely short lifespan on the seed. Are there incoulants now that can withstand a long time period prior to planting? If not they are just trying to sell me something that will be a complete waste of money.
