Last week, methods were discovered to use the Komodia code to compromise the laptops using something called a "man in the middle" attack. I don't know what that really means. That raised the issue to a higher level.
A man in the middle (MITM) attack means that your requests to a web server, or the content the server returns to you, are intercepted by a "man in the middle", who can alter the requests or responses to suit his needs. The needs could be injecting ads, serving malware or spyware, tracking internet usage, altering search results (or requests), etc.
