Subject: Payment terms

Charing Cross, Ont.

When I buy inputs or have work done I'm ok with the terms that vendor has on their statement or invoices. Most times I pay as I go anyway.

But I also run a small business not really ag related. What really burns me up is when I get a purchase order for equipment or service the buyer will state what his payment terms will be, most of time it is 60 or 90 days. I pride my self on giving prompt service and I expect to be paid promptly. Having said that I also know that when I do a service call or sell supplies that most larger companies will not cut a check immediately.

Another sector that really bothers me is car dealerships, I have never once bought a vehicle or had one serviced without having payment in place before it left the dealership. But when I sell them equipment or service they look me like I have five heads or something if I ask for payment, then it takes 45 days for payment. It's the double standard that is madding.
