Freestall barn will be $4,000 - $5,000 per stall and parlor will be around $10,000 per cow space. Just round numbers, but usually come close. Feed storage and outside equipment is on top of that yet. My guess is $1,200,000 to start up plus feed inventory for 120 cow freestall / parlor setup.


and unless you know someone who is giving away 120 cows you're going to have to pay out for them too. Low cost parlors can be put together for cheap. Lots of used equipment out there. Would not jump straight into robots given the cost. Get some cash flow going and pay off the cows. Easy to build a freestall designed to add robots onto the end in 5 years.

If you don't like milking cows why do you want to dairy? Hope you at least enjoy breeding them.
