I think you are looking at $1,000,000 to get this idea off the ground. For 120 cows I don't see you getting the financing unless you have a bunch saved up. For far less there are facilities for sale. Also have you considered renting a place? Get your feet wet and get some cows bought and paid for. Young guy starting from scratch is real tough but not impossible these days.

If I was in your situation here is what I would do. Find a larger dairy that is looking for a good worker. Many of these types of dairies will allow cattle ownership as a pay incentive. Get your personal cow herd built up while working there. This will get you something to borrow against. Sometimes you can use your cattle numbers to buy into a partnership or you could splinter off and maybe swing a dairy of your own.
