NC | Here is what I have heard.
Going north they get too cold
We tend to have mineral issues
Our worm and cocci loads are higher than other places(warm and wet year round). Shipping turns both issues on.
Hold over from the old days when southeast genetics/health protocols across the board were subpar (huge improvement now)
The long haul creates problems.
And of course some southern genetics(eared calves) just don't cut it up north- but there are very few of them left anymore.
All those issues creates a good job for southern backgrounders, by the time we are done the calves are bullet proof. With one exception, hauling into an artic freeze event.
They have to have some time to adjust before they get hit by that. | |
