Subject: RE: fair cash rent for tomatoes?

Near-north Ontario, French River
Around these parts the typical rent is in the $6-700 range for a tomato crop. Since tomatoes are typically grown on a 2-4 yr rotation many will use a 'blended rent' In other words instead of charging 600 for tomatoes, and 220 for the soys or corn grown in the rotational yrs, a rent of 350-4 is charged and tenant can grow what ever they like. Now keep in mind for this to work there should be some restrictions.. ie tenant can't grow tomatoes on less than 2 ( or 3..what ever is agreed upon) rotation. Be sure to include something about tile repairs and wet harvests can play havoc with tiles etc... Your numbers will vary of course as I don't know what contract prices are in your area...
