Subject: RE: Finishing an old attic

Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS
Did that "on the cheap" on a house we used to have. We used some stuff we got at Home Depot that was some kind of Styrofoam (kind of like what some egg cartons are made out of). Don't hold me to this but I think it was called Raft-R-Mate. I remember that it was molded into a kind of "waffle iron" shape. Nailed it between the rafters with a staple gun to provide air flow from the soffits to the roof vents, if memory serves (this was probably 15 years ago) and then put the insulation on (under) that. We only needed that between the rafters that provided an air flow channel from the soffits to the roof vents. We just stapled the insulation between the rest of the rafters. We then put up furring strips across the rafters and fastened the Ceilotex to that. Turned out pretty good for no more than it cost. My son used it for a bedroom until we sold the house.
