Iowa | Pros:
It's simple, straight forward, and should be accurate.
Data entry is easy.
Separates farm stuff from personal stuff.
Would be easy to add a listing of receipt and disbursement totals.
Would be easy to add a monthly cash flow budget with year to date comparisons.
Cons:
It's strictly cash receipts and disbursements, no accrual based financial statements derived from a complete chart of accounts and subject to the basic accounting equation.
There is a lack of useful reports that can be viewed and/or printed out for individual accounts (very useful at tax time and when allocating to enterprises).
Also a lack of ability to make sub accounts as needed.
If the farm has a lot of transactions, the space requirements would be massive, making it very difficult to get a detailed listing of a year's or maybe even a month's worth of transactions for individual accounts printed on letter sized paper.
It needs to track total quantities as well as total dollars for crops and livestock. | |
