just a tish NE of central ND | Yes, our old house makes its noises mostly when it I rapidly dropping in temperature outside. Materials shrink and stuff gives back and forth. The old dairy barn used to crack like someone broke off a rafter when it got below zero . But there was a lot of moisture to freeze and crack when it expanded and contracted.
The ice on lakes constantly bangs and cracks too , especially when the ice is very thick and its been cold, then a sunny day hits it glows and shrinks, especially when the sun down .On a quiet evening you can hear it from a long ways away. |
