Unfortunately, the Target stores up here were very different than the US versions we've been to in ND. Tried to be an upscale Walmart so to speak. Little better quality and geared to the 20-40 year old woman according to a friend who was in management in one of the Cdn Target stores. Empty shelves often and not much for deals. They took over the existing Zellers building and spent more money than a new bldg. would have cost to redo it. Worked their managers to the bone (80-100 hrs/week) and had poor management from head office. The turnover in management was mindboggling in the short history that it was here. Heard of lines of parked 53' vans full of inventory with no one to unload it or stock shelves.
Think if they had tried to compete head on with Walmart, they could have had a fighting chance. Seems to be working for Target in the US.
