We use JD chain lube. We wash planter off good to start with. Wife turns shaft while I oil chains. I hold a short piece of plastic pipe, that is cut in half under the chain to keep spray off of other parts of planter. Let it set all year so it will soak in good. I might be wrong but we don't oil chains in season.
