Fulton County Ohio | Rented a McFarlane the first year. Purchased an Excelerator the next season. McFarlane was impressive but the drag would drop residue in any depression. Excelerator is not as aggressive as a Landoll, Case or Deere, but it leaves a smoother seedbed. On some custom jobs the slopes and watersheds erode enough that an earthmover is more appropriate to fix gullies. VT will not fix that. The issue of slugs is reduced. Perhaps by luck or possibly egg disturbance in the fall VT pass. Earthworms are deeper at that point and plenty of residue is left for them. If you run enough continuous corn on corn, have tile drain depressions or other field leveling requirements it is good to have a coulter chisel in the shed. | |
