Boone Co. Iowa | I think that the western europe and US wanted to punish Putin to let him know that it is NOT open season on any and all neighboring countries he wants/needs to annex. So, I think that trade sanctions were set up to do just that, and that they are having small effect.
Having oil prices plummet was just a bonus, speeding the process up. Wall St. likes BIG moves, not little sideways trends or "steady as she goes" profits. Win-win.
