Rome, KS | There have been several discussions on covers the last few days. Some seem to lead to nutrient tie up. How are people going to address this? Do you put on an extra % of N? And if so, when? Or do you fertilize earlier in the year? Or is it a placement issue? Or is it all of the above and more? One person may starve to death before they test all the possibilities. Has anyone done any tests?
I know it's going to depend upon the species in the mix, your location, and the termination time. But if the mix had a higher C:N ratio and planted a grass behind it, that should show up first.
