Thanks for the answers, Im looking at planting 20 ft 6 rows wide so even if they never amount to anything i'm not to worried about it.

I was thinking that if I did get it to work I should be able to market it as "local organic" in NYC for a premium price. there is a guy not far from here doing ginger in high tunnels and is finding a great market for that crop.

We usually plant 101-107 day corn here, we farm within a few hundred feet of Seneca lake which is over 700 ft deep giving us a much longer season than other areas of new york.

Is cotton more like corn or soy for fertility needs?
