If have a Harmon pellet stove and I leave it all the time.  No problems.  When it runs out of pellets it simply shuts down.

Depending on temperatures of course, but my hopper will take @ a 40 lb bag and it will last 3/4 of a day in the near freezing temps and a lot longer than that when temps are in the 40's.
