| As a farmer who is also an elected school board member, I would like to see more people involved in the process of running the schools! The sad part of life today is I have more people call concerned about their kids playing time and/or coach than call about grades or teacher concerns! I also see some corporations spend crazy money on their facilities, but around here the projects have remained minimal! In Indiana a project over 2 million needs voter approval, not just board approval, so some projects get denied!
As for throwing more money at the "problem"! The actual amount we receive per student is less than it was eight years ago! In the 4 years I've been on the board we had to add full time nurses at all the buildings due to students who can't function without one!( diabetes,autism, mental retardation, among other ailments) A nutritionist,special Ed director, A test cordinator, two technology specialists to help with our 1-1 rollout! Bought 1200 I-pads for the elementary students, and getting ready to purchase chrome books for the high school students! These are all things that weren't necessary just ten years ago! The state says they are spending more on education,but look where the money is actually going! Charter schools, private schools and such with vouchers to kids who were never going to public school anyway!
My point is come get the facts of what money is being spent on! Some of the above things are totally illegal expenditures! Superintendent spending on personal items, meetings taking place before the actual meeting, spending more than a minimal percentage of the general fund on extra curricular activities! If these are happening, by all means call them out!!!!!!!!!!!! | |
