ec nebraska | I live in east central Nebraska. My taxes have gone up dramatically the last few years. The increase can be attributed mostly to the public school. The county's increase is equal to the increase in inflation. The school's share is approximately a 15-20% increase annually. Start talking to your local school board members, but be ready, they'll always blame the county assessor ad land values. I think the superintendents set their budget according to how much tax revenue is coming in versus creating a budget and setting the levy accordingly. Keep in mind that the superintendent is typically one of the highest paying occupations in your county. We complain about the fiscal irresponsibility in Washington DC and than ignore what goes on in our own backyards. | |
