Your service provider should be doing screening for spam and that can be adjusted. Google mail does a good job of screening for spam too.
And sometimes you have to resort to "unsubscribing" to other ads and political junk that have gotten onto your email some how. There is usually an unsubscribe link at the bottom of most junk.
