...I've got so many little shortcuts, tweaks and special programs I just cringe at the thought of losing all of them and I don't know if I can get some of my rather expensive graphic programs uninstalled and moved. Especially those with extra filters I've purchased.

I don't know if you can anymore, but you used to be able to go into Safe Mode and delete your motherboard drivers and swap out boards (or move the hard drive to an altogether new PC whilst keeping the windows install and data intact). I'd definitely backup before doing that, but it might be worth a try.
I agree on the $60 probably not being worth it. I think I'd just add another internal drive if all you want to do is backup (and not move files). You seem to have plenty of SATA sockets on the motherboard. |
