Subject: RE: Too many Christmas gifts

SE Nebraska
I don't have a problem with people giving gifts, it's the disappointment if I don't reciprocate that I have a problem with. I like to give things and my time to people without expecting something in return.

It also bothers me when people spend money on me that I know they don't have.

We try and give something homemade to the neighbors every year. Most years they return the favor, but that's not why we do it. Usually it's some cookies or bread or something. Last year we made bread and homemade jam. Another year we gave some fruit.

If your in-laws can really afford to spend that kind of money and it makes them happy, then I'd say let them have their fun. As long as they don't expect you to do the same.
