There are different DVI's:  DVI-I and DVI-D

Simplest solution is use the VGA adapter. The monitor will sense the analog signal and route it thru the analog/digital converter built-in the monitor and to the screen. The speed loss is imperceptible to the human eye.

Only caveat: the VGA top resolution limit is FHD or 1920x1080. If your monitor is any higher you must use digital.

One other thing:  if the PC is newer it will have a HDMI TV type video connector & most monitors do as well. Using that connector with a cable will bring along audio to the monitor speakers if it has them as well.

Was going to point that out, I had to get a separate soundbar from mine but it was not expensive and very neat.
