Not to turn this into a dog story thread, but, your story reminded me of one very similar.  The whole family was at our cabin.  My parents had arrived and were unloading the food from there car (a hatchback).  Well everything was done and we were sitting by the fire.  I finally notice that my dog is missing.  About that same time my mom notices that the hot dog buns were missing as well.  We are all walking around the woods hollering for the dog.  Finally, we find her, in the front seat of my parents car with a half eaten bag of hot dog buns.  She looked out at us as if to say "what is your problem?"  Funny thing is my dad doesn't like dogs, doesn't like one to be in his car (he keeps it freakishly clean) and doesn't let anyone eat in his car (see previous parenthesis)!  That day he got all three!  So, anytime after that, we always had to check the car before they shut the hatchback to make sure no dog "wandered in".
