SW “Ohia” | Ear Corn is one of my favorite products on the farm. I know that sounds odd, but I think it is interesting to successfully pick corn using technology that was modern when my Grandpa was my age. The fellow I work for picks around 10 gravity bed loads per year, and we put it up in a Behlen wire crib.
There are a whole lot of long-abandoned corn cribs in this part of the country. Always thought it is sad to see ear corn out of popularity, as it makes for excellent feed. The amount of work related is the main killer. Not many row-crop guys have cattle anyway.
Hope to find a nice New Idea picker in the next few years so I can put up some for my own cattle. Nice pictures, and thanks for sharing! | |
