The zones you are talking about work pretty well for managing the past- like where to put replacement fertilizer.  Where the best corn was in the 2012 drought is generally where our worst corn is in 2014 when we had too much water, and the spots that made 30 bpa then are making 230 bpa this fall, so which one do you guess for if you are going to try and generate something like planter populations?
