Sunburst Montana | JD knew as early the late 40s the 2 cylinders had to go. Problem was the marketing department wanted to keep the 2 cylinders because they were JD's biggest money maker but the engineers wanted to move on to more modern designs. People need to keep in mind the 2 cylinders were designed back in the horse days. The ability to burn the cheap fuels and the simplicity of the design for the not so mechanically inclined horse farmer, there was no better tractor.
