It's possible to crack into someone's computer over public networks, but I'd usually expect them to target files, not just try and mass copy everything... the time to do that, assuming these are possibly hundreds of photos, would be pretty considerable.
What I would recommend, immediately, is changing the network ID, wifi password, administrator username and administrator password if you have a wifi router at home.
