Crawford County, Robinson, Illinois | Dad lived in Edwards County, Illinois when that IH 123 sp came out. He bought the first one available after the war years, drove it around the race track for the local dealer to show off during the County Fair. I spent many an hour on that machine eating dirt. Not a bad combine at the time, I recall the very long bent rod that shifted the transmission deep in the combine. Dad painted his in 1950, sold in 1957. Neighbor bought it, probably still has it but I haven't seen it in 40 years. Someone said something about corn, I don't believe a corn head was ever available for that model. For years the farmers in the area believed a corn head would tear up a combine, and stayed with pickers long after everybody else was combining corn. We were surprised the corn in the combine caused less damage and power loss than weedy beans before herbicides.
