“These are the times that try men's souls.” | Well out west I'm betting 98% of the gates on ranges are wire gates. Easy to fix when some **** head drives though them or a cow blows though them. The big plus is when in drifted snow against a wire gate, it is a lot easier to open it vs. a metal tube type gate. When out on the range trailing cattle and you come to a tube type gate you need a shovel to dig it out to open. Wire gate you can pull open by hand, then drive cattle though to break snow up. We will also put a 30-40' wire gate next to a drive over cattle guard to trail cattle and get farm equipment though, tough to keep 30-40' of metal gates from sagging over time. |
