I love that stuff.  Dad broke 160 bu about that time but our big yield was about 234 in 1971, the year after the corn blight.  We applied potash and other nutrients side dress on a Gandy applicator mounted on the Oliver cultivator.  I remember learning how fertilizer affects your hands and how heavy 80 lb bags were.  Ammonium nitrate was a popular source of nitrate but no longer available here.

I wish I had pictures from that era, we were not picture taking people.
