Subject: Minimal-Till Corn on Corn

Central IL
We try to practice minimal till on our farm by not doing any aggressive fall tillage. We no-till our beans and run a Krause Landsman ahead of the corn. The corn on corn has not been a major issue but early plant stands are somewhat uneven especially this year will poor residue breakdown. Yield has been good but behind first year corn. By my late season population checks, we lost approximately 3-4000 ppa. The ears were larger in this field but not enough to make up for reduction in population. Any tips or tricks on dealing with high yield corn residue in minimal- till corn on corn?
