NE Iowa | After several years of our current cropping practice (corn/bean rotation, strip-till bean stubble in fall, plant corn into strips in Spring, no-till the beans into untouched corn stalks), our fields are starting to get kind of rough. Thinking about running over the corn stalks with a roller after planting beans next Spring. I don't know alot about rollers, but it looks like there are different drum diameters. Is there any drawback of running a 24" drum vs. something 40+" in diameter? And with moderately hilly terrain, what width would a JD 8410 handle easily? I've heard it isn't the power to pull it that is the problem, but it is slowing down on the ends to make the turn.
Anyone have one in central Iowa they would like to rent out? Will be rolling a max of 250A.
