northeastern Ohio | We had 200 amp service until 2010. It was supplying the house as well as the barn (milking parlor) and a couple drying bins. When everything was running, the voltage was not balanced very well and voltage would be 105 on one line and 108 on the other for a combined 213 volts. Burned up a lot of motors. Put up a leg and a continuous flow dryer in 2010 and upgraded the service to 800 amp (two 400 amp) and also upgraded all wiring with underground lines of the correct size. Spent about $30k for the upgrade on our side of the meter. Power company installed a new transformer and ran new service lines to the meter. Now we have enough power to run everything with no "brown outs". 600 amp would have worked, but the cost to go to 800 was only a few hundred dollars more. | |
