If you don't like the 25 000 repair bill every year, you will really not like the 40 000 custom work bill (at least that is what it would be for 1000 acres here) and then the wait for them to come. If labour is short 1 bigger combine is likely a better deal and maybe keep a smaller one around if you have extra help.
