Subject: Chopping and bagging a cover crop

The Green Hills of Missouri
Was asked by a neighbor about chopping his cover crop of turnips, radishes, oats and clover. Hes got 80 acres of this seeded behind hog manure, and says its knee high. Sounds to it would be worth the effort.

I would guess it would need to be mowed let lay for a few days to dry some then chop. Sound correct?? Will it have more sap than Sudex? NOAAs saying we will have a killing frost to end the growing season tomorrow night(friday). How would this change the plan. Could it be left standing and let it dry naturally then mow and chop behind it?

The equipment is here for the job just a lack of knowledge about the process!!

Thank you for the help, from nw IL.

These two bone heads been doing this since they've been big enough to get in the mineral bunk. Guess the air flow is better up there!!!!
