Subject: RTK question

On September 4th we used a 4x30" Buffalo planter pulled by a tractor with RTK guidance to precision plant 9 acres of radishes at the WIU Organic Research Farm with the intention of planting corn over the radish rows in 2015.

The radishes established well and are currently 1/2-3/4" in diameter at the shoulder.

Yesterday we started to cultivate the radishes with a 6x30" IH 153 cultivator... the first pass on the west edge of the field went well but something was clearly wrong when we started to come back on the east edge of the field. We measured the distance between outer rows on adjacent planter passes and found more variation than expected (27" to 33" with no consistency).

The radish rows look very straight so we did not realize there was a problem until we started cultivating.

The purpose of the cultivation is to terminate winter annual weeds and to build a ridge for us to plant on next spring.

The soil was a little moist so we decided to hold off until Monday to cultivate the rest of the field with a 4 row cultivator.

The attached photo shows our 4 row high residue cultivator parked after a short demo pass.

Any thoughts on why the RTK Autosteer on the JD 8270 that we rented from a neighbor was not more accurate?
