Subject: RE: Why do corn heads have augers?

southern nebraska
Kinda surprised at the answers I am reading this morning, with all the hype on a flex draper I would think a corn head draper would be a nice product. Slowing down my auger is not going to help, for one thing I could not fit a larger driven or smaller drive sprocket in there place and no I do not have any paddles in the center of auger. When the ears get pitched out is when they hit the auger just right as they are coming in and no other stalks helping to deflect ear from escaping like at the end of the rows, in the field with even crop flow it does not pose a problem. Also we are in an area that cannot push population more than 23000 so there is not always a lot of material coming in to deflect. Opening up crick bottom fields where you have a 40 acre field and by the time you get the end rows off you already have 12 acres done with making 15 corners is where the big problem occurs.
By the way this is a 3000 hugger head.
