Why not slow down the auger. We did that on our 630LM head for our M3. Cut the gear off the hub on the lathe and bored out the largest gear that would fit under the shield to weld back on the hub. No more cobs flinging out.

Adding all those belts and alignment issues that go with them would be a nightmare. But I guess the green paint combine guys like rube goldberg designs. Combines don't need gearboxes :)
