Subject: Why do corn heads have augers?

southern nebraska
After watching all day on the ears that come into contact with the edge of the auger and they all fly out why do we have augers on our corn heads. What would be so wrong with a draper corn head. You would not need a 3ft wide belt, a foot wide conveyor with maybe 3" flaps should work. Also inclose the belt with seals like in a grain trailer trap to prevent kernel loss. Put the conveyor below the back of the rear of the row unit so it has no chance of escaping. The center belt could be just slightly narrower than the feederhouse opening. Just a thought, wouldn't a draper corn head sound good?
