Coles County, Illinois | If there's any consistency to the direction it's fallen down, I pick against the grain. Example: The field runs north and south. A west wind knocked it over. I'd start on the east side of the field and maybe not take a full swath. Usually my biggest problem is stalks breaking off and collecting on the outside snout. Using this method, I pre-lift the outside row of the next pass and reducing the swath doesn't really cut down productivity as the machine has to process the whole plant anyway. | |
