Subject: RE: MX or 8000 series

Paxton, IL
I've never had an 8000 series. shopped around for some, but ended up buying a 1st generation MX magnum that time. I just plain liked it better, no particular reason though. Just seemed to fit me.

Although, from reading on this forum, I would say an 8000 series is probably more reliable. Comfort and fuel efficiency would probably be pretty similar between the two. However comparing an MX245 with an 8300 isn't exactly comparing apples to apples. There is a pretty significant gap in time between the two models. I do think you are right looking at a MX245 though. Case IH pretty well had it figured out by the time the 3rd generation magnums rolled out.

I do have to agree with NEILFarmer though, neither tractor is going to be as reliable as your 4440. There's just too much technology built into the newer tractors and things will go wrong. A good boxcar magnum is probably the best compromise of all. Very reliable. Won't have the comfort of a new tractor, but still very nice and spacious cab. good transmission.
