It's the same problem as "organic".
Not really, the USDA NOP specs define precisely what "organic" means, if you want to use that label on your products. No such rules or laws for "green" or "natural," as the consumer associations have reported many times. But maybe there can't be one single definition of "green" that applies to all products, from a light bulb to a car, paper towels, dish-washing liquid or a method of farming.
Rather than seeing "mass manipulation," I see that there is a growing interest in the public for sustainable and non-polluting industries, and I would not generalize calling them all "uneducated," many consumers look beyond such labels for more meaningful information. |
