An engineer ought to be made to go out in the field and work on the things they design. Then maybe they'd design it so it can be worked on without having to strip e erythin off to get to it

I've said this for years, as I have extensive knowledge of forklifts. I also said I'd never be an engineer, and inadvertently became one. Working for a MAJOR player in an equipment mfg environment, I will say almost no maintenance consideration is taken when designing equipment. It's just how it is. I don't like it any more than any of you. I wish I had the time, money and supervisor approval to design things easily worked on.

But if I did that, dealer mechanics would go hungry ;)
