Subject: JD 4440 rear axle seal leaking grease (left side)

Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80

Can I assume the bearings are going out? (grease is oozing out {Edit: grease globs the size of peanuts/grapes}, pulling wagons of grain to ADM elevator, the tractor just got done spreading dry fertilizer, the last two days, before Today)

I believe, Dad had these axles redo with new bearings, seals and brakes about 5-6 years ago, and tractor only get 300 hours or less, per year.

I will probably jack it up, tomorrow,  and use a dial indicator on axle, and see how play there is.

I think these are on a 400 hr grease schedule, and I know I grease them, this Spring.

Is it a $2000 job, or a $4000 job (per side)?

Thanks
