Ansonia-Darke County | Combining earlier tonight and head just quit. '96 model 9400 643 low tin oil bath head both well maintained and less than 1,000 sep. hours on combine. Have been running fair amount of down corn making 175 to 225. Fodder fairly dry but brittle and taking a fair amount of stalks/leaves through machine but not really pushing running about 3.7 m.p.h. when entire head quit. Have used reverser maybe 20 times in 100 acres when 1 row jams and slip gearbox clutch, or it wad of fodder slugs auger and slips clutch. ALWAYS disengage head, idle down, rock pedal under heel and then just briefly re-engage head and back out slugs. Got out and checked after head quit and plate with three longs bolts and large coil spring by reverser gearbox were loose so headed to shop and dropped head and backed in to work on. Turns out that the 3 long bolts were still in place but the 6-3/8"X3/4" bolts that hold the small round plate on the end of the inner sheave were all snapped off below face on end of shaft. Got it all tore apart and dad is heading to dealer in morning to see if they can tap out/extract remaining stubs. JD parts show inner sheave assembly is $694 so would rather not go that route. Can't figure out why bolts sheared. TIA for any insight or tips from experience.
