Yep, that's why it's not even an option. You can do it, just not in SMS. Some studies have shown it to be superior even in sparse datasets since it gives an error term. (but if you don't use that error, what good is it then) Others have shown IDW to be superior and many have mixed results. 

IDW is far simpler, go that route for now.
