Great question. Here I have learned I need to maintain at least 25 ppm soil N for it to be active. I feel I need to add the nutrients my soil and tissue test says I need at harvest and planting the next crop, in this case cover crop.
I think farmers have heard this message as I hear of so many 70 bu plus yields this year.
